Picking up our new S5. Looks great or what?

Picking up our new S5. Looks great or what?

So, I installed our new La Spaziale S5 at our training room in Halifax. Fantastic!

We have a beautiful black 2 group semi, a Anfim Caimano and a new Mahlkonig Vario grinder.

The Mahlkonig Vario is fantastic. A tiny grinder that grinds on demand for espresso, filter and cafetiere coffee. This is something we have been looking for a while now. Not really designed for a busy coffee as the main grinder but absolutely perfect as a guest coffee grinder or a decaf grinder. We would recommend this grinder to have for guest coffees.

The Vario can easily be grinding for espresso, cafetiere and filter coffees. All you need to do is change the grind which takes literally about 2 seconds. It is also great for training as we can use many different blends now as it is very easy to swap coffees during the course.

The S5 is going to help a lot during training. We feel that it produces fantastic espressos and it extracts more flavour out of the coffee. The temperature settings of the brewing is great as well of course. And I am still amazed that is running of 13 amps of power!

The Caimano’s doser is great, I love it. It’s quick and doesn’t leave a lot of residu ground coffee in the doser.

All in all, it has been a crazy but absolutely fantastic day! Please do come over for a coffee!

La Spaziale S5 colours

La Spaziale S5 colours

We have had to sell our Rancilio Classe 6 at our training centre in Halifax so we have decided to buy a brand spanking new La Spaziale S5 in black with an Anfim Caimano coffee grinder. This is in our eyes a fantastic combination and we are extremely looking forward to the result.

La Spaziale machines have great brewing temperature control and the 53mm deeper porta filters result in some fantastic espressos. The Anfim Caimano grinders grind at a lower RPM speed which prevent the ground coffee from getting too hot. Great stuff!

The good thing is that we can run the S5 from a simple 13 amps plug.

We already have an automatic S5 upstairs so we have decided to install a Semi 2 group downstairs tomorrow. It’s going to be a great day!

A great way to motivate yourself in barista skills is to watch some of the best baristas at work. I enjoy watching other baristas and it is a fantastic way to learn and to pick up new ideas.

For those who didnt know, the videos of the WBC 2009 are now online, have a look at http://www.worldbaristachampionship.com and Gwilym Davies at  http://www.worldbaristachampionship.com/videos/2009finals_uk.html

Coffee cherries. Interested in picking them?

Coffee cherries. Interested in picking them?

Can you get a month or two of from work? Want to get away from your office job for a while? Why not work on a coffee farm in Hawai for a while!

Or maybe if you are starting a business in the coffee industry such as setting up a coffee shop then it might be a great way to start. Volunteer on a coffee farm and learn about planting coffee trees, harvesting, processing and the real skill of growing quality coffee.

You could do on many coffee farms, i.e. on a farm in Hawai with the Kona coffee.
